Catherine McLeod

“Giving back is my way of saying thank you for the life I never thought I’d have.”

Catherine has been part of the Diabetes community for decades—first through Diabetes Queensland, and now with Diabetes Australia. Diagnosed in her early twenties, she remembers her mother fearing she wouldn’t live a full life. But Catherine defied those expectations: earning two University degrees, built a fulfilling career, got married, and is now a proud mother and grandmother.

Throughout her journey, Catherine has witnessed firsthand the incredible progress in diabetes care—from basic blood tests to the life-changing impact of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). “These improvements didn’t happen by accident,” she says. “They happened because of research. And research needs support.”

That’s why Catherine became a regular donor. She describes her contributions as humble, but deeply meaningful. “I trust Diabetes Australia to use the funds where they’re needed most. I give because I believe in the power of community and progress.”

Living with diabetes can be isolating, but Catherine has felt a shift in recent years. “Diabetes Australia has really stepped up in building a sense of community. It’s made a huge difference.”

Now retired, Catherine continues to give back—motivated by the belief that the changes she’s seen must continue. “We’ve come so far, but there’s still more to do. I encourage anyone who can to join this wonderful giving community. Together, we can keep making life better for people living with diabetes.”
