Fundraising
However, if you’re planning something larger (e.g. external events, raffles, or partnerships), check with your manager and Pip at Diabetes Australia first. There are some legal requirements around some fundraising activities.
There are lots of simple and fun ways to get involved! Here are some popular ideas:
In-store ideas:
- Donation tins at the counter
- Blind date with a book
- Guessing competitions (e.g. guess the number of lollies in a jar)
- Baby photo voting/guessing competition
Team activities:
- Casual dress days or themed dress-up days
- Staff morning teas or bake sales
- Fitness challenges (steps, walking, cycling)
- Trivia Nights
Community engagement:
- Raffles with prize donations from local businesses
- Host a small event in-store (health day, BBQ, awareness day)
The key is to keep it simple, fun, and engaging for both your team and customers.
The charity partnership runs for 12 months from 1 July, so youhave plenty of time to fundraise.Â
To raise the most possible though, the earlier you get started and plan, the more successful you will be.
Funds raised support Diabetes Australia’s work, including:
- Supporting people living with diabetes
- Funding research into prevention and management
- Delivering education and awareness programs
- Advocating for better health outcomes
Your efforts make a real, tangible difference in communities across Australia.
Yes they can! Donations of $2 or more to Diabetes Australia are tax-deductible.
However, there are a few key points:
- Receipts can only be issued for voluntary donations, not for purchases (e.g. buying a fundraising item or raffle ticket).
- If a donor would like a receipt, ensure their full name, email and donation amount are recorded (if required through your process).
- Online donations made directly your store fundraising page will automatically generate a receipt.
If in doubt, direct donors to donate directly on your online fundraising page to ensure they receive an instant receipt to their email address.
Yes it will! Once you let Melita in head office know that you have raised money through fundraising activities, she will advise you on what to do with it.
She will then let Pip at Diabetes Australia know, who will then add it to your store's fundraising page. Â
it's a good idea to keep a record of all your fundraising income from your different activities so you know what is popular with your customers. Â
